Locust Grove Antique Show

Yesterday was the annual Antiques Show at Locust Grove. A dealer I had bought from recently in Bardstown and Evansville was going to be there and she had a long "wish list" from me of things I was looking for either for my own collections or for etsy! So, I had arranged to meet up with her sometime Sunday afternoon!

Mom went with me and we were pleasantly surprised to find a used book sale there right at the entrance. Found some wonderful, wonderful, old children's books which will soon appear in my etsy shop, or at least parts of them will! Best of all, we found out that the dealer will let us come to his heated/air conditioned garage and scour through more!

The food was not too desirable and expensive. I basically threw $7 into the trash can but the booths were nice, the weather incredible and we ran into a friend, Priscilla, who we saw at the last show we went to there! Too funny!

Mom's Second Birthday Party

Yesterday I picked mom up and whisked her off for her birthday surprise! She had no idea where we were going other than knowing that she had to dress up and we would be eating! We ended up here at Sisters Tea Parlor in Buckner, KY just after noon. She was super surprised especially when we walked into the Pink Paris Dining Room and Janie, Dottie and Sue were there snapping her picture!

We got to play dress up and pick out fancy hats, jewelry, scarves and mink stoles to wear while having our tea party! We were served tea and tea fare and I have to confess that I still don't like the taste of tea! It was lots of fun though and made for a very nice afternoon and birthday celebration!

Happy Birthday Mom!!!!

This little baby grew up and became my mom! Her birthday was actually yesterday but since it was a little hectic, I didn't have a chance to post on here until this morning!

We had lunch at the Cheddar Box in Louisville, which is one of her favorite places and then did a little shopping! We intended to hit a lot of thrift/antique stores but never got to a one! Mom got her free birthday ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery though and enjoyed every bite!

A little change in dinner plans brought us back to her house bringing in Mexican from our new favorite local Mexican restaurant and cake and presents too! Then the a/c went out and $267 later she got a new transformer for her birthday! Now, that is always just want you want, however, not having a/c on a 90 some degree day is no fun either so....

Happy Birthday and more celebrating to come tomorrow!!!!!

Scrapbook Layout

I finally managed to sit down last night and do a little scrapbooking! I pulled out an old kit I'd made up a few years ago and this one went together pretty fast! Used some of my favorite pictures of Alexis that I took gosh probably 2 years ago at least! I also started a little mini album in the shape of a house! I've gotten the front and back covers done and all the inside pages covered with patterned papers! I'll share soon!

Thrifting and Antiquing and Big Lots Goodies

I managed to do a little thrifting and antiquing today while running errands. The laundry was cooking back at home while Tim was starting to put weight on his leg. I found a whole bunch of Pillsbury and similar pamphlet cookbooks, including some Bake-offs for 25 cents each so I'll put them away in mom's gift stash! Then I found some things at an antique mall that will make an appearance in my Etsy shop soon! Love the animal flash cards! I also got a little hat with ivory millinery flowers that I finally talked her down to half off on! YAY! I also hit our Big Lots and found some different Basic Grey stuff including alpha stickers to match my Stella Ruby papers and another matchbox album. I found some food/recipe related stickers and two neat MM albums that are tag shaped! Now I wish I'd bought the line of paper but I never did when it came out. See what happens when I actually can pass something up? I only wish I had it at a later date!

Back on His Feet, Well Sorta

We were supposed to go for Tim's follow up appt. with the Orthopedic doctor Monday but they called and rescheduled it so we finally got to go today. Looks like he's been healing up pretty well and now we get to move on to getting him back in full working order. That means transitioning from two crutches with weight on the left leg to one crutch in a few days to a cane until he returns for another follow up on July 25th. He will be going to physical therapy to help regain strength in the muscles, regain range of motion and not be so wobbly! He can drive a car and he can go up and down stairs all with the idea that pain will be his guide. So, he gets breakfast in bed through the weekend and the cooler next to the bed stocked with Mt. Dew and water but come Monday I'm semi retiring and we've got new rules around this place! YAY!

Happy Father's Day Dad!

Well, I'm a bit sad today as I was originally supposed to be in Virginia WITH my dad instead of having to settle for two phone calls across the miles. So, thought I'd share some pictures of dad and I over the years to go along with the gift I made him! I bought one of those digital frames and created a flash card with about 65 pictures through the years, including all the pets and the son-in-law! He LOVED it! I also gave him a book about delis and their history and as a huge deli conniseur, he loved that too! Said it was the best book I'd ever given him!

We don't always agree, and we are both stubborn but my dad has always loved me dearly and was always there for me. I remember late night snacks of popcorn, watching college basketball games on tv, fixing me school lunches at night, hanging out with me and my friends, bike rides, swimming at Hidenwood Pool, reading me tons of books, setting up his train and painting little figures for it, shopping at the Williamsburg Outlets, gosh I could go on and on but you get the idea! A real hands on dad and I am very glad for that!

So, Happy Father's Day and hopefully I'll be able to make up my trip soon!

Thrifting Friday

I had planned to scrapbook with a friend today but our plans got changed to Monday instead so I recruited my mom to go across town with me to drop off two more kit layouts and use our three 50% off coupons at Michaels. We had a super yummy lunch at On The Border and then headed over to a favorite thrift store and to Tickled Pink.

Scored big at the thrift store in the children's book dept! Lots of goodies for Etsy! Found some other goodies too, including an Ant Farm, mint in box, dated 1971. I had planned to put it on Etsy but Tim had just recently mentioned having one as a kid and I asked him about this one. End result, without him getting to see it yet, is that we are going to keep it and he gets it for a gift at a later date! It is really cute! No ants included but the original bag of sand, which doesn't look much like sand, is still there.

I thought the puffy Lassie stickers were super cool too and will keep one of the duplicates for Tim for him to display with the Lassie Playset!

Spent the rest of the afternoon shipping Etsy orders at the post office and taking tons of pictures for future Etsy shop listings! Stay tuned!
