Little Jaunt to Lexington

A couple of weekends ago, mom and I took off and headed to Lexington, KY for the day. Tim, once again, had to remain at home and work on tax stuff and video editing stuff!

We went to a little show that's held monthly in an old warehouse building and then hit a couple of antique shops/malls nearby, two used bookstores and a little local restaurant with just THE BEST burgers ever! I ran into an "old friend", my little plastic Marx vanity table. I had one just like it as a child and LOVED it. I now regret that it was sold at a yard sale. I just can't bring myself to buy one when I stumble upon them in an antique mall or flea market because it's not the one I actually had. I'm silly like that with toys from my past!

The tin can Tin Man was taken just for you Jamie!!! Hope you are reading!

Found some goodies, once again mainly for my etsy shop! I found some great old children's books and readers as usual as well as a stack of 11 old JC Penney/Sears catalogs from the 1950s and 1960s. They showed up just in time as I had a huge custom order for catalog pages depicting infant and children's wear right after I got those! Fun old advertising and pictures!

The Helpers Are Back

Two furry helpers. They try. They try to not get cat hair in my shop items. They try to not walk through it and make a mess. They try.

Books, Books and More Books

Imagine that! Last Saturday, Mom and I took off and headed north to do a little antiquing. It was a beautiful day and Tim unfortunately had to work on taxes and dvd production so we just went on without him! I must confess that I had gone to a book sale first thing in the morning and found a few books, not as many as I would have liked, but worth the trouble anyway!

Anyway, picked up mom and we headed to Seymour where we ate at a local diner and then made our way to Edinburgh to the Exit 76 Antique Mall. Had we known the treasures we would find, we would have high tailed it up there earlier than we did! I found tons of great vintage children's book and readers as well as a handful of other kinds and a game or two for my etsy shop!

We closed the place down and in fact, stayed ONE HOUR after closing! I made myself stop looking at 5:45, thinking that 15 minutes, maybe 20 or 25 max, would be more than enough time to check out! WRONG! Thank goodness the manager Nic, who is just the best guy and still remembers me from the days when I had booths there, was willing to stay late and make that sale!

Mom also found a few goodies for her collections! We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Taco Bell and then headed home in the dark!

Pictured are some of my finds!

Titanic!

Friday a week ago, well a little over a week ago, Tim, Mom and I went to see the Titanic exhibit on display at the Louisville Science Center before it closed. It wasn't as large as the exhibit that we saw in Vegas a few years ago but it was still fascinating to see the artifacts that had been recovered as well as to hear the stories of the passengers.

Andrea's Retirement Party

I'm so behind on blogging! Mainly because I'm buried under papers crunching numbers for my tax guy who didn't impress upon me last year that I would need more specific numbers this year for my business stuff. Ugh!

Anyway, one of my co-workers, Andrea, retired at the end of February! She had been there for almost 16 years! Such a wonderful, kind and thoughtful person! A true pleasure working with her these last 8 years! She will be missed!

When my boss asked for my help with Andrea's retirement party, I recruited my mom (a caterer in a past life!) and we got busy! Picked the yummiest foods that the Cheddar Box cafe in Louisville offered, sampled delicious cakes at Sweet Stuff in New Albany and went to Caroline at Lavender Hill to get flowers (she did my wedding flowers and I'm still talking about them!). It all came together Friday the 26th at my boss's house. What a great afternoon and party! I have to say though, mom and I came home and collapsed at 5:30! We were two tired party planners!
