And Then Came The Readers!

I've been trying to get to this bookstore in Louisville all month and finally made it over last Friday. Poor mom, she said she'd wait in the car and read while I looked. Neither one of us had any idea I'd be in there for 2 hours plus! We were beyond starving when I finally reappeared loaded down with wonderful old children's books and readers! Treasures! They were having their semi annual sale and while they were still a little on the pricey side, I decided I had to have them for my etsy shop! One book has wormed its way into my heart so I will be keeping it! It's an advertising piece from a bank in Louisville dated 1946. Four pages have spots to put your coins in! It's too adorable! I couldn't wait to get home that night and pour through them and then pack them up in boxes until they could be listed!

More Thrifty Finds!

A few more vintage goodies to share! More delightful vintage ornaments including a great old box from Woolworths (I want the box for a project I'll get to someday), vintage Christmas tags (I just love these things!), books for my etsy shop including a Richard Scarry ABC, Through the Looking Glass and a neat Christmas book by L. Frank Baum, an old children's Rand McNally book, a Big Boy BBQ cookbook, a girl scout catalog, a set of old maid cards for my etsy shop, another plastic santa bugler candy container (that's two I found this season!), a beautiful Santa candy tin and a deck of cards with cool retro style lettering for my etsy shop!

Junior Was Extremely Bad Friday

Well, after Junior was feeling yucky on Wednesday and ended up at the vet for a good portion of the day he was feeling all back to normal Friday and acting like a cat again.

I was downstairs putting laundry in the washing machine when Junior made one of his rare appearances to the first floor of our house. He came into the kitchen and jumped up on the little table to look out the kitchen window. We leave the curtains parted so the cats can do this. Something very enticing was catching Junior's attention and the van was parked in the way of his viewing area.

So, in true cat-like fashion, he quickly decided to jump up to the mid portion of the window. There was a little sill there, however, he was unaware that he would not actually fit on it. He was also unaware of the problem that would present itself when he tried to hang on and there were no front claws any longer.

Down he came, pulling (and tearing) my lace curtains with him, knocking over vintage candy boxes and almost knocking over the gingerbread man tree in the process. I stood there momentarily with my mouth hanging open and then ran to catch the wobbling tree! Tree was saved, boxes were okay, Junior was fine although a little freaked and curtains were not fine.

Made for an interesting morning to say the least.

Last Week This Time

We were getting ready for our Open House on Sunday! Hard to believe it's already been a week ago! The weather was perfect! It was in the high 50s and no rain. Can't ask for much more than that! Two years ago it was so warm we had to turn the a/c on! Many friends, neighbors, friends of friends and family stopped by...almost 90 total! It was hectic at one point but we tried to visit with everybody and partake of the goody table ourselves!

What a Find!

I'm finally the proud owner of a Kenner's EZ Bake Oven, in the original box no less! Tim and I went to a Christmas party last Friday and stopped in at a small antique mall after we left. I zeroed in on this baby sitting under a Christmas tree as soon as we walked in! I could not believe my eyes when I saw the price of $12. Twelve dollars people! The box is in great condition for its age and the oven is intact along with a bowl, potholder and empty replacement box of cake mixes! No original cake mixes but that's okay for this bargain! I passed up two of these sets on our Nashville trip because the boxes were so bad. And I am all about the boxes! I do wish now that I had gone ahead and purchased the one that had all the original mixes intact as I could have swapped lids if I'd known this one would be in my future!

Last Week's Finds!

Last Thursday I managed to finish up some baking early enough to still get out and hunt for some vintage Christmas goodies! I scored some vintage Shiny Brites and reflector ornaments at a thrift store, including some that were still being priced! I also hit a local antique mall where I found a great Vogue sewing book, a bag of children's blocks, a fun 1960s nostalgia book and an old Doubl Glo stardust drape/tree skirt/whatever you want to call it for my etsy shop! I found an adorable 1960s drummer boy ornament for my patriotic tree, a roll of vintage Christmas scotch tape (I just love those!) and another box of Shiny Brites for me! I also got the neatest box of Christmas "leaves" still in their original packaging used for package decorations or to add to the tops of ornaments! Fun stuff!
