April Kit Layouts for SLD

Loved this kit! So fun, filled with the most awesome Sassafras Lass papers and lots of embellies to match. I dug out a bunch of pictures from my childhood- perfect for this kit!

We're Getting A New Pole Light!

Or "Home Improvement Gone Terribly Wrong"!

This is what happens when you have a husband, a hack saw, a tree, a ladder and a pole light all within a few feet of one another. I even got to witness the whole ugly act. I pulled up after spending an hour at Kroger after work tonight (getting some super good deals!) and was chatting with my mom on the phone (about my super good deals!) and was waiting out on the street/curb to pull in the driveway. When I pulled up I saw Tim had a ladder leaning from the driveway up to this tree and was sawing away at a big branch that was hitting the electric wire. I was informing my mother that he was sure to fall any minute.

So, I watched the ladder and the husband teeter and totter and then I saw the branch split and fall off, hitting the bushes and then the pole light and there was Tim teetering and tottering and hanging on to another branch and at that point I was wishing I was still at Kroger getting some more good deals.

He sheepishly came over to the car and said "I broke the light". He didn't mean to. He had it all planned out that it would fall right between the bush and the light, hitting neither one. (It hit both)

I informed him that he was now going to have to spend $60-80 or whatever it ends up costing to buy us a new pole light.

He just kept reminding me that I never liked that one anyway. (Like he had done me a favor in all this!)

I ran in to get the camera for documentation and embarrassment while he lugged in my really good deals before sweeping up the broken glass.

Our Annual Trek to Bardstown, KY

The annual antique show at Nelson Co. High School was this past Saturday and Sunday and Tim, Mom and I were anxiously awaiting! Tim turned us on to it when we started dating as he has gone for years. It's a nice day's outing and we always enjoy it. Although last year there was a gas leak that caused us to leave early!

Anyway, we had time to hit three yard sales in town before heading out of town! Found some treasures! Imagine that! One was at the high school benefiting Relay for Life and you got to pay by making whatever donation you liked. That was certainly fair!

We stayed a couple of hours at the antique show and then headed downtown and ate at Hurst Drugs at their little soda fountain. Went into a couple of antique shops and then a flea market type of mall in the more commercial area of town before heading home.

Fun day but we were all so exhausted upon our return that we just left everything in the foyer and hit the sack!

Celtic Woman Concert

We saw the Celtic Woman at the Palace Theatre when they were in Louisville on tour this week! The costumes were beautiful, the girls were beautiful and the music was beautiful! The venue was perfect, the Palace Theatre on Fourth St. in downtown Louisville...such a spectacular place! Eleven of us went, having dinner at the BBC on Fourth first and then just crossing the street to the theatre! Gotta love the city!

My Name Is Elizabeth And I Am A Thrift Store Junkie

Well, that and flea markets and antique malls/stores, etc, etc! I've been finding more treasures lately and have this annoying habit of immediately coming home and putting them away somewhere; either in a box to sell, my scrapbook room to "use", gifts boxes for the family or amongst our collections to enjoy! However, then I have to go around and pull stuff just to take a picture!

So, here are a few pretties from the past few weeks...I found this Old Maid game yesterday at a thrift store for 50 cents and I was so excited as I had this very game as a kid and I actually remember playing with it many times! How fun! Does it scream 1970s or what? It's dated 1978! My first thought was to sell it but then I realized I just couldn't part with that one.

I love the little trinkets I've been finding especially the door knocker pin! Isn't that the cutest? It's just perfect for the front of a house album I have...a chipboard album shaped like a house! All I have to do is remove the pin part and voila! I also loved the old screw back earrings that have the daisies and other little flowers! Can you imagine actually wearing those back in the day? Yeah, me neither...

Let's Play Mini Golf

I was hunting for some pictures for the SLD April kit last night and thought I'd share this one. Circa May 1978, Newport News, VA at the Putt Putt Miniature Golf Course. It was quite the hot spot for birthday parties and the pretty little blonde in the yellow dress and blue tennis shoes is the birthday girl of honor that go 'round! My friend Courtney turning 7! Don't you just dig my rainbow shoes AND rainbow pantsuit? Could it have coordinated any better for the late 70s? I LOVED those shoes, in fact I think we still have them tucked away in a box of my old clothes at mom's....

Pretty Ribbons and Trims

This is a box of treasures I found at the Indy flea market that we went to after the Antique Advertising Show a couple of weeks ago! The lady selling them was so nice and said they came from a lady's estate who had died in the 1970s and her brother left her apartment untouched for all these years. I took them all off the paper rolls this morning but I wanted to take a picture first of how they looked when I bought them! I can't wait to put them in a big glass jar!
