Birthday Celebrations

Sunday was the annual birthday and Mother's Day dinner with Dad's world famous London Broil and rice! It was a beautiful day out and the dinner was cooked to perfection! This year, we donned funny glasses/eyebrows and big noses for the annual family portrait minus mom. She at least took the pictures for us! Got lots of nice gifts! Monday, my official birthday, Mom, Dad, Tim and I went to Kobe Japanese Grill for dinner. Yummy as always!

Bodies Exhibit

After hitting the neighborhood yard sales yesterday, Dad, Tim and I had to lunch at Five Guys and then went over to the Bodies exhibit in Louisville. It was actually rather nauseating! Interesting but gross. I thought I'd enjoy it a little more and it definitely didn't take the hour an a half they said it would take to see everything. I think we were done in 20 minutes max. I really did enjoy the digestive system though. I got to see exactly where everything is and my missing gall bladder!

Neighborhood Yard Sales

Yesterday was the semi annual neighborhood yard sale in my mom's subdivision Cobbler's Crossing as well as two other subdivisions right nearby. After an initial threat of some morning showers which never happened, the day ended up being perfect for yard sales! It was mayhem out there though! So many cars parked on both sides of the street, people walking everywhere and cards trying to maneuver through the narrow passages!

I stopped at an estate sale on the way (had to wait a half an hour as I forgot it started at 9am) which was fairly decent. Got two boxes of vintage shiny brite ornaments, a Marx building, a small rolling pin for a kitchen collage mom and I are going to make, two neat old picture frames, two vintage post cards, a very old battery operated Santa, a wooden plant stand, a porcelain shoe, a cute little girl planter, a can of Raid (for 25 cents- mom needed some!), a heavy duty scotch tape dispenser (also for mom and about 25 cents!) and some Christmas gift bags for 10 cents each!

Then I headed to Cobbler's and chatted a few minutes with mom and my aunt and uncle who were set up in the garage. They were busy and had sold a lot of things on Friday already! I hit quite a few sales and found some goodies. I'll take pictures later!

And who knew there were llamas? so close by?

Spent about 2 1/2 hours roaming the streets and then headed back home!

History in the Making

Tim hangs onto things. It's a known fact. Over the last 10 years, I've managed to nudge him slightly to get rid of things that were just sitting around, not being used or past their usefulness.

Well, the Honda was one of those things. Tim purchased it brand new off the lot 27 years ago. And, you just can't kill a Honda. It wasn't too bad when I first met him, ten years ago, but over the last few years it has gotten progressively worse. It finally got parked sometime last year and was supposed to go away by last October. (Today is May 4, 2009). That obviously didn't happen. So, it sat out in the "back 40" by the garage rusting away even more. I just tried not to look at it and the other 5 cars parked in the driveway mostly blocked my view.

Thanks to a neighbor looking for a kitty and coming into our driveway one day last week, it ultimately sold to someone visiting her. Tim probably got $100 more than if he had sold it for scrap and we were unsure as to whether they would come get it or not.

I believe I only rode in it one time...early on in our relationship when we went to the State Fair for the first time. Tim had me convinced that you didn't dare take a good car and park it there. (I've never had a problem since though...)

I have to confess...it was just slightly sad to see it go.

But I will be over that feeling by tomorrow. Or in the next hour!

I Went Junkin On Friday

I had been meaning to check out a new shop that opened in Clarksville and Friday seemed like the perfect day to do so! Mom and I were running a few errands nearby so we popped into a couple of thrift stores as well as this new little shop that we drove right by the first go 'round! I scored 25 more vintage children's readers, a Lost In Space game and mom picked up a Niagara Falls souvenir ash tray there. I got a great old picture frame, a wooden box for display or organization, vintage Christmas ribbon and wreath ribbon, a few little vintage Christmas decorations, two ledger books, another encyclopedia, a McCall's sewing book, a Munsters Whitman book, an abc book and some cute letter tiles at other places!

Road Trip to Evansville

Saturday was just beautiful; sunny and warm if a little windy. Mom and I had been anxiously anticipating the first flea market in Evansville that we discovered last year. So, we got up super early Saturday morning and headed west. Tim decided to stay home and sleep!

The flea market was great! Lots of goodies to be found! Some super deals, some reasonable prices and some way overpriced items! The first booth I went to had boxes of books for 25 cents each! I got another 8 old encylopedias with beautiful pictures and color plates! An adorable baby book that mom took home with her, Ideals magazines, books to dissect for ephemera packs, etc! I also got some neat old 60s/70s Christmas ornaments!

Other treasures of the day included an unopened box of coupon books (90 total!), a Lotto game, old 1940s magazines, an Easter Candy box for my collection, a stack of travel souvenir plates, a stack of paper doll dresses, neat old magnets from the 70s, a box of pink and white buttons, Dennison leaf seals, a little toy register for $1, giant greeting cards with adorable children on them, stationery, animal anagrams (I'm keeping!), a neat package of rhinestones, vintage Easter egg dye (a pack I actually didn't have!), washer and dryer S&P shakers, a souvenir ashtray, two 1960s yearbooks and the most incredible die cut scrap I paid dearly for! The best find had to be the 1930s medical book on Hemorrhoids from a Dr's estate! The perfect Etsy find!

Mom was thrilled to find a mannequin torso and two "heads" for displaying vintage clothes and hats! She also found some vintage postcards, books and apparently some secret gifts for yours truly!

We stayed there for 5 hrs and then went to the Riverside Antique Mall. Mom found a gorgeous antique picture for her collection of "ovals", a couple of vintage hats and I found just a handful of items....a sweet little Rand McNally book, a children's chalkboard/slate for a "project" and an old ledger book!

Then we made the mistake of going to the antique mall at the shopping mall. Not good. I think we bought two things, both souvenir ash trays.

We headed home, stopping at the only restaurant for miles off of I-64- Denny's. Rolled in just before dark. Super fun day!
